Bhubaneswar: Odisha Government’s measures to prevent spread of coronavirus notwithstanding, the positive cases will cross 11,000 in June, estimates IIT, Delhi.
Analysing the rate of corona cases in the State till May 12, the country’s leading tech institute projected the positive cases at 11,283 by June 6. The institute made the projection on the basis of AICSEIR model.
Earlier, the IIT-Delhi had estimated that the positive cases would reach 365 by May 12, while 437 persons had tested positive by the date. The number of corona positive cases stands at 737 on May 15.
Though the number of COVID cases in Odisha grew by over 378 per cent from May 1 to 15, it will register 15-time growth from May 15 to June 6, the IIT estimated.
According to Health department sources, 99 per cent of new cases have been reported from the quarantine centres whose inmates mostly comprise the migrant workers. While 61,394 migrant workers have returned to the state, 5.38 lakh more have registered in the government’s COVID portal for return to home state.
