Odisha To Receive Pre-Monsoon Rainfall In Next 24 Hours: IMD

Bhubaneswar: With the further advancement of the southwest monsoon, most parts of Odisha will receive pre-monsoon rainfall in the next 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday.

The IMD said there will be thunderstorm at one of two places in some parts of south and coastal districts for two days till June 8 under the influence of a trough running from East Uttar Pradesh to Northeast Bay of Bengal across south Bihar and Gangetic West Bengal, .

“However, keeping the gradual advance of the southwest monsoon, most parts of the state will receive pre-monsoon rainfall from the afternoon on June 8 with heavy rainfall over the north coastal and southern districts. The heavy rainfall will continue till June 12,” the bulletin added.

The IMD further said due to heavy to very heavy rainfall, there will be water-logging and localized/flash floods in some places. This will result in damage of crops and vegetables. Besides, there will be some damage to informal/kutcha roads and traffic congestion and disruption of municipal services due to water-logging in urban areas.

In view of the heavy rainfall in the state, IMD has issued yellow and orange warnings for the following districts.

June 8
(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri,  Koraput, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi.

Thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore.

June 9
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Mayurbhanj, Koraput and Malkangiri.

Thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul,  Dhenkanal,  Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Kandhamal.

June 10
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur and Mayurbhanj.

Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Dhenkanal, Puri, Angul, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Boudh and Kandhamal.

June 11
(Orange warning)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy falls at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak,  Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal and Angul.

June 12
(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Boudh, Sonepur and Kalahandi.
