Bhubaneswar: With the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) deciding to trim the syllabi for Classes IX to XII by 30 per cent amid the COVID-19 pandemic this year, the Odisha government on Thursday hinted that it may follow suit.

School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash told the media that the state government will review the CBSE’s decision.

Dash, however, clarified that the government will take a decision on the reopening of schools only after assessing the COVID-19 situation in the state in August.

“As COVID-19 cases have reached alarming proportions in Odisha in July, the state government will decide on the trimming of the syllabus only on the basis of the date of reopening of the schools,” the minister said.

“If necessary, the government might reduce the syllabus by more than 30 per cent. As the schools have remained closed, it will not be possible at the moment to say as to how much syllabus will be reduced,” he added.
