Odisha ‘Top Performer’ In State Startup Ranking

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has been ranked as a top performing state along with Karnataka, Kerala and Rajasthan in ‘State Startup Ranking 2018’, the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) announced on Thursday.

The states have been judged on different parameters such as startup policy leaders, incubation hubs, seeding innovation, scaling innovation, regulatory change champions, procurement leaders, communication champions and more. Awards were given in Best Performer, Top Performers, Leaders, Aspiring Leaders, Emerging States and Beginners categories.

Twenty seven states and three union territories had participated in this first-ever state-wise startup ranking.

L N Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary, MSME Dept, Govt of Odisha received the ‘Top Performer’ certificate on behalf of the state govt in New Delhi. “We have taken multiple steps in implementing the Odisha Startup Policy 2016, which aims to place Odisha among the top three Startup hubs in the country. Currently, we are one of the fastest growing Startup states with over 20 Startup registrations per month”, he said.

The state currently has 334 recognised startups with 9 Incubators, 12 Nodal Institutions and 110 mentors.

Gujarat won the ‘Best Performer’ award.

Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Telangana received accolades as ‘Leaders’. Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal were acknowledged as ‘Aspiring Leaders’. Assam, Delhi, Goa, Jammu & Kashmir, Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, and Uttarakhand received ‘Emerging Leaders’ while Chandigarh, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Puducherry, Sikkim, and Tripura won the ‘Beginners’ category award.
