New Delhi: Odisha topped the State Ranking Index for National Food Security Act, 2013 (NFSA) and Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) operations.
Odisha achieved first rank with a score of 0.836.
Odisha is followed by Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat.
Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti said in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha on Wednesday that the first-ever State Ranking Index was released to evaluate implementation of NFSA and TPDS across states and Union Territories.
The Index rests upon three pillars which consider various facets of food security and nutrition.
The first pillar measures coverage of NFSA, rightful targeting and implementation of all provisions under NFSA; the second pillar analyses the delivery platform while considering allocation of food grains, their movement and last-mile delivery to fair price shops; third pillar focuses on nutrition initiatives of the department.
Each pillar has parameters and sub-parameters to support the evaluation.
The State Ranking Index aims to create an environment of competition, cooperation and learning among states, promote transparency, and publish verified data in public domain for research and analysis.
