Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Monday apprehended a Traffic Inspector (OMVD) in the office of the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) in Sundaragada for allegedly taking Rs 20,000 bribe from a truck owner.
The accused, identified as Mukesh Kumar Mishra, was caught while taking Rs 20,000 from a truck owner for allowing his two Hyva trucks to operate without any obstacle under his jurisdiction for last two months in June and July as monthly quota.
Vigilance said in a statement that the Traffic Inspector had demanded the bribe from the truck owner to allow his transport business smoothly under his jurisdiction. Unable to meet the demand, the truck owner reported the matter to vigilance authorities.
Upon receiving the information, a team of Vigilance nabbed Mishra while taking Rs 20,000 from the complainant. The entire tainted bribe money has been recovered from the possession of Mishra and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at three locations linked to Mishra from Disproportionate Assets angle. A case has been registered and investigation is underway.
