Bhubaneswar: A man, who suffered the agony of losing his son in the train accident at Bahanaga Bazar station in Odisha’s Balasore district on June 2, is now unable to get the body though the Indian Railways released his picture.

According to sources, the 24-year-old son of Sibakant Ray from West Bengal had boarded the Coromandel Express on the fateful night. Following the accident, the Railways issued the list of the passengers on a website with the picture.

“It was a great loss for my family. With a heavy heart I along with my elder brother came to Balasore to take his body to perform the last rites. From the list of pictures released by the Railways, I identified my son. He was in the serial number 14 in the list. When we went to a place near Balasore hospital and wanted to take the body, the officials told us that the body has been sent to KISS in Bhubaneswar,” said Sibakant.

Despite feeling frustrated after losing the son and not being able to get the body for the last rites, Sibakant and his brother came to KISS. When they enquired about the body, they were told that somebody else has already taken it away by showing the document.

“I showed the picture of my son to the officials at the mortuary in KISS. They raised doubt whether he was my son or not. They pointed out differences in the facial structure of the body they had. They said the nose and cheek bone were different. When I insisted, they said a man from Bihar claimed the body with necessary evidence and taken it,” Sibakant said.

He said the KISS authorities have taken his blood sample for DNA test. “But, I have to wait for the report to come. I don’t know what to do and whom to approach. I feel so unfortunate that I am unable to perform the last rites of my dead son,” he added.
