Cuttack: The toll in the horrific triple train crash in Odisha’s Bahanaga Bazar station rose to 291 after another injured passenger died while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Sohail Mansur, who hailed from Bihar. He was undergoing treatment at the Trauma ICU of the SCB Medical College and Hospital.

Sources said that the victim was brought to the state-run hospital with severe injuries. His health condition was critical and he succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment.

This was the third death in a week in the deadly train accident that took place on June 2. While one injured had died on Friday, another person had succumbed to injuries four days ago while undergoing treatment at the Hospital in Cuttack. All the three hailed from Bihar.

Sohail was critically injured in the three-way accident involving Chennai-bound Coromandel Express from Shalimar, Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express and a stationary goods train on June 2. The death toll in the accident earlier stood at 288. Over 1100 people were injured in the deadly train crash.

However, no official confirmation on the increase in the death toll has been made so far.

At present, several injured passengers are undergoing treatment at SCBMCH and some of them are in the ICU, the sources said.
