Bhubaneswar: The Mahanadi Water Dispute Tribunal (MWDT), examining the river water row between Odisha and Chhattisgarh, has rescheduled the hearing slated for Saturday to March 14.
As per information, the Tribunal is set to hold a hearing after conducting a spot visit between February last week and March first
week. The tribunal is now set to conduct the hearing on March 14 after completing its spot visit.
It may be noted that the tribunal’s tenure is set to end on April 13. Both Odisha and Chhattisgarh have already requested the Centre to extend the tenure until March 27, 2027, to ensure a thorough examination and settlement of the dispute.
The tribunal has been non-functional for 9 months due to the vacancy of the chairperson, which has delayed proceedings, according to Odisha Advocate General Pitanambar Acharya.
The hearing on March 14 will focus on the issues related to the sharing of Mahanadi water, and is expected to be a crucial step towards resolving the long-standing dispute between the two states.
