Odisha Ushers In Christmas With ‘Snowflakes’ Triggered By Intense Cold Wave

Bhubaneswar: With the cold wave gripping the entire Odisha and mercury dipping to 5 degree Celsius in Phulbani, the lowest in the state this year, the remote areas of Koida and Tensa in Sundargarh district witnessed snowflake-like frozen dew drops on Tuesday.

According to a release by the Meteorological Centre, apart from Phulbani, temperature plummeted below 10 degree Celsius in eight places inclduing Balasore (9.5), Angul (8.6), Jharsuguda (9.6), Keonjhar (7.2), Sambalpur (9.8), Titlagarh (9.5), Sonepur (9) and Daringbani (in Kandhamal) (6).

Apart from this, the mercury stood still at 10 degrees in Baripada (10), Hirakud (10.1), Talcher (10.3), Bhawanipatna (10) and Sundargarh (10).

The twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar recorded 11.4 and 11.2 degree Celsius respectively.

There will be further fall in the night temperature in the next 24 hours and no change in the weather condition till December 31, the release added.
