Bhubaneswar: Considering the demands of the students, the authorities of Utkal University here on Monday announced a reduction in the hostel fee.
PG Council Chairman Prof Basant Kumar Mallick said that the monthly hostel fee has been reduced by about 59 per cent. The students will now pay Rs 1,210 instead of Rs 2,950.
Notably, the students were demanding hostel fee waiver for the last two days and had gheraoed the office of the PG Council Chairman.
After an hour-long meeting, the PG Council announced the reduction in the hostel fee.
The students had contended that as they had vacated the hostel due to the COVID-19 pandemic and had not used electricity and water for the last 10 months.
