Bhubaneswar: Students of Utkal University staged a demonstration on their campus at Vani Vihar in Bhubaneswar on Monday over a number of issues related to hostel facilities.
The students staged the protest in front of PG Council Office alleging delay in allotment of hostel accommodation to the new students.
Several first year PG students stated that their classes have started from August 21 but hostel accommodation is yet to be allotted to them. Though the attention of the authorities was drawn to the issue several times, no step has so far been taken, they claimed.
As a result, the studies have been affected, they said, adding that over 200 students including first year and second year students met the PG Council Chairman and Superintendent Monday.
The students have been assured that the first year students will be allotted hostel rooms in next two to three days Some arrangements will also be made to ensure that second year students get single rooms, sources said.
The demonstrators also raised several other issues like drinking water and other facilities at hostels with the concerned superintendent.
