Koraput: Odisha Police have nabbed one of the three persons accused of thrashing an elderly man to death at Uparakutinga village under the Laxmipur block of Odisha’s Koraput district.
The deceased was identified as Kursha Maniaka.
A video of the man being thrashed while being tied to a pole by the family members had gone viral on Friday.
According to sources, a heated argument broke out between Maniaka and his family members as he broke the asbestos sheets of his son’s house. It later escalated and Maniaka’s family members, including his brother, son and daughter-in-law, tied him to an electric pole and thrashed him with wooden sticks.
Maniaka died on the spot. Later, the accused cremated the body with the help of some villagers.
While one person was nabbed following a police raid on the village, efforts are on to trace the two absconding accused, the sources said.
