Berhampur: The Odisha Vigilance on Monday apprehended two junior engineers and a supervisor while accepting bribe in Ganjam district.
A contractor had complained to the Vigilance that Prasanna Kumar Padhy, junior engineer, Berhampur Section, Kukudakhandi of MIP Division Ganjam No I, Berhampur, Dhirendra Kumar Panda, Junior Engineer-cum-Estimator of Berhampur MI Division and Ajaya Patra, Khalasi (supervisor), Headquarters Section of MI Division were demanding a bribe of Rs 10,000 for for processing the file on execution of agreement for improvement to Bada Bandha Minor Irrigation Project (MIP) at Monohara in Kukudakhandi block of the district.
Following the complaint, the Vigilance set a trap and the contractor went to the pay the bribe money. Junior Engineer Padhy instructed the contractor to pay the money to JE Panda.
While Panda was accepting the bribe, he was caught red-handed by the Vigilance officials inside the office of Executive Engineer, MI Division-I, Berhampur. They recovered the amount from the possession of Panda. Earlier, Supervisor Patra had accepted Rs 14,000 through PhonePe for the work.
The Vigilance conducted simultaneous searches in office chambers of Padhy and Panda and their houses in Berhampur.
Berhampur Vigilance has registered a case under PC Amendment Act, 2018 in this connection and further investigation is in progress against the three officials.
