Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday apprehended food safety officer of Kendrapada CDMO office Bibhas Mazumdar while allegedly accepting Rs 5,000 bribe.
According to a Vigilance release, he had demanded the illegal gratification to issue licence to the complainant to run his business. “Mazumdar conducted surprise raid at his shop on July 30 and instructed him to apply for a licence. Accordingly, the complainant applied for licence on August 8 but was not issued one. When he requested Mazumdar to initiate the process, the latter demanded Rs 5,000. Finding no alternative, he agreed to his demand and also lodged a complaint with the Vigilance,” it said.
Accordingly, a trap was laid and Mazumdar was nabbed with the bribe money.
Simultaneous searches are currently on at two locations linked to him to ascertain whether he has accumulated assets disproportionate to his know sources of income, the release added.
