Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday arrested Jatni block Assistant Engineer Nibedita Mohanty on bribery charges.
She was apprehended while allegedly accepting Rs 50,000 bribe at her residence at Khandagiri in Bhubaneswar, the previous night.
Mohanty had allegedly demanded the illegal gratification from a contractor to clear pending bills of a government construction under Jatni block. Simultaneous searches are on at Rudra Vihar, Khandagiri Bari, Bhubaneswar, house of her in-laws at Digambarpur, Nihal Prasad, Dhenkanal, her paternal house at Nayapalli, Bhubaneswar, and her office room to ascertain whether she has accumulated assets disproportionate to her known sources of income.
A case has also been registered against her at Bhubaneswar Vigilance police station under Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and further investigation is underway, an official release said.
Meanwhile, contractors have alleged that she also used to demand fish, prawns, Balakati mutton and Paradip ilisi.
