Odisha Vigilance Arrests Assistant Engineer Raja Kishore Jena In Disproportionate Assets Case

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday arrested assistant engineer of Roads and Buildings (R&B), Division-III, Bhubaneswar, Raja Kishore Jena, on charges of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

A case has been registered against Jena and he will be produced before the court of Special Vigilance Judge, Bhubaneswar, an Vigilance release said.

The anti-corruption agency had unearthed a multi-storey building at Niladri Vihar, two flats at Cosmopolis and two commercial outlets at Utkal Kanika Galleria and Symphony malls in Bhubaneswar during simultaneous searches at 10 places, which began on Tuesday. 

The investigation further revealed that Jena and his colleague Ashok Kumar Panda, another assistant engineer of the same R&B Division-III, Bhubaneswar, had jointly purchased a flat in Cosmopolis at Khandagiri in the names of their wives.

These apart, 13 high-value plots, including nine in Bhubaneswar, and bank deposits worth Rs 75 lakh were detected. Jena had also allegedly spent Rs 67 lakh on the education of his two children. 

The officer was arrested as he failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the source of these assets, the release added. 

Service details of Jena

He drew a monthly gross salary of Rs 87,055. His entire service tenure was in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack except for 4 months in Keonjhar.
