Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance on Thursday arrested assistant executive engineer (AEE) of Angul’s Attamallick block Ramachandra Satpathy on charges of accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
This came a day after assets worth crores of rupees were found during raids on properties linked to AEE. A double-storey building, 22 high-value plots, 350 grams of gold ornaments and bank deposits worth over Rs.1.16 crore were detected, which he could not explain satisfactorily, a Vigilance release.
Another Rs.23.95 lakh in cash was seized from the house of his son-in-law. Dr Tapan
Tripathy, who is serving as medical officer at Junagarh CHC in Kalahandi district.
The double-storey residential building is located at ward 15 in Gayatri Nagar area of Dhenkanal. Among the plots, one is at Barang in Cuttack and the rest 20 in Dhenkanal town. Additionally, the sleuths recovered household articles worth over Rs 17.31 lakh, besides bank, postal & insurance deposits worth Rs 1,06,66,475, 2 two-wheelers and as many four-wheelers, one each in the name of Satpathy and Tripathy.
Sources said that the actual value of the landed plots is likely to be much higher than the Registered Sale Deed (RSD) value that stood at around Rs 60 to Rs 85 lakh.
Satpathy joined govt service in Oct ober1989 as junior engineer (JE). Thereafter, he worked as JE in different blocks in Malkangiri, Talcher, Kendrapada, Deogarh and Angul. In 2020, he was promoted to the rank of assistant engineer and posted at Kaniha block in Angul. In 2022, he was promoted to the rank of AEE and posted in Athmallik block.
