Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance on Thursday arrested a staffer at the District Education Office (DEO), Cuttack, for allegedly misappropriating government funds amounting to ₹51,53,640.
The arrested has been identified as Subash Chandra Sahoo, a resident of Sidheswar Vidyamandir in Naraj, Baranga. He was posted in the accounts section of the DEO office, where he was responsible for handling t
he Human Resource Management System (HRMS) and the Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS).
According to the Vigilance investigation, Sahoo gained unauthorised access to the credentials of the Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO) and manipulated government portals between December 31, 2018, and October 16, 2021. He allegedly inserted the names of four fictitious individuals into the HRMS portal as regular employees eligible for salaries. Salaries were generated and credited to their bank accounts. On the same day the funds were deposited, the entire amount was transferred into Sahoo’s personal bank account, the probe found.
A case has been registered against him at Cuttack Vigilance police station under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2018, and further investigation is underway.
