Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Thursday arrested Biplab Keshari Samantray, District Social Security Officer (DSSO) of Keonjhar, for allegedly taking Rs 20,000 bribe from an NGO through digital mode.
Vigilance said in a statement that allegations against Samantaray were received from different quarters regarding collection of bribe from NGOs & individuals in connection with execution of agreement, release of grant in aid payments/bills to NGOs under Social Security Schemes of the government.
Samantaray is suspected of taking bribe from different NGOs & Individuals through his PhonePe account and that of his family members, relatives and office staffers.
During preliminary scrutiny, a large number of Phone Pe transactions of receipt of money from different NGOs & Individuals have been found, which are under verification.
Vigilance has registered a case against the DSSI and investigation is in progress.
Following this, simultaneous searches have been conducted at three locations of Samantaray from Disproportionate Assets angle.
During searches, details of 10 plots in and around Bhubaneswar in the name of Samantaray and family members have been ascertained and are being verified.
This apart, a three-storey building with area approximately 3000 sq ft in Bhubaneswar, a simplex house in Madanpur, Bhubaneswar and a farm house spanning 3 acres in Madanpur, Bhubaneswar have been unearthed, the Vigilance said.
Further investigation is in progress.
