Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Thursday arrested Mausam Behera, former Secretary of Sunamudi Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society and Tamia PACS under Patnagarh ARCS Circle in Balangir district, for allegedly misappropriating over Rs 22.19 lakh of society funds.
According to a Vigilance statement, Behera siphoned off Rs 22,19,636 during 2024-25 and 2025-26. The accused allegedly made false entries showing refunds of Amanat or deposit money and diverted proceeds from fertilizer sales instead of depositing them into the Cash Credit fertilizer loan accounts of both PACS.
Following investigation, a case was registered at Sambalpur Vigilance Police Station under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Amendment Act, 2018 and BNS.
After arrest, Behera was produced before the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Balangir. Further investigation into the financial irregularities in the two cooperative societies is underway.
