Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday arrested Subash Chandra Panda, DGM (Civil) of Odisha State Police Housing Welfare Corporation, Berhampur Division, on charges of possessing disproportionate assets.
His disproportionate assets include 2 multi-storey palatial buildings in Bhubaneswar and five high value plots, including four in prime areas of the city. He had also paid Rs 66 lakh to a realtor to purchase 1 flat in Bhubaneswar. Gold weighing 870 gram, over Rs 1.84 crore deposits and Rs 13.47 lakh in cash were also found during the house searches, which he could not account for satisfactorily, an official release said.
The officer on Monday had thrown away bundles of currency notes worth Rs 10 lakh from his triple-storey building at Aiginia to terrace of neighbour’s building here to thwart a raid by the anti-corruption vigilance department.
Notably, Panda was dismissed in 2010 by competent authority on charges of gross misconduct, dereliction of duty, and disobedience of orders. He was later reinstated on the order of the Orissa High Court.
