Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance on Saturday arrested a junior engineer (JE) in the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Division of Khariar, Susanta Kumar Sethy, for allegedly amassing disproportionate assets.
“Suspected ill-gotten cash of Rs 55 lakh and 1.4 kg gold, which Sethy allegedly kept in his tenant’s house to avoid detection, is also under verification,” a Vigilance release said.
On Friday, simultaneous raids were carried out at eight locations linked to the junior engineer. The anti-corruption officials detected 3 multi-storey buildings, a farmhouse, 9 high-value plots, two expensive four wheelers, including a ‘benami’ car, deposits amounting to Rs 55 lakh, household articles worth over Rs 14 lakh, the sources of which he could not explain satisfactorily.
It further stated that Sethy’s wife had lodged a complaint with Dhouli Police on April 13, 2024, alleging that Rs 55 lakh and gold weighing 1.4 kg was usurped by their tenant.
Sethy began his government service in February 2004 as a contractual JE. He was regularised in the post in March 2011 and has since served in various R&B divisions including Rayagada, Angul and Khariar. He has been posted in Nuapada since September 6, 2023.
