Rourkela: A Vigilance court on Thursday convicted a Block Development Officer (BDO) in Odisha in a bribe case and sentenced him to 3-year rigorous imprisonment.
The Vigilance had filed the chargesheet against Kailash Chandra Behera, former Rourkela tehsildar and present BDO of Ersama in Jagatsinghpur district in the court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Angul.
As per the case, Behera was caught red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs 50,000 from a complainant for not taking any legal action against him and not to cancel the lease in respect of a piece of land allotted in favour of the complainant.
The Vigilance court convicted the BDO in the case and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years and imposed a fine of Rs 5000.
In default of payment of fine, the court ordered him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 months.
