Odisha Vigilance Nabs Baripada Municipality SRA While Taking Bribe

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Friday apprehended a senior revenue assistant (SRA) of Baripada Municipality for allegedly accepting Rs 10,000 bribe from a man to process his application for stall in a market complex.

The accused, identified as Gopal Krishna Pradhan, was caught while demanding and taking bribe from a complainant for processing his application submitted in January 2025 for allotment of stall in his name in the municipality market complex area, a Vigilance statement said.

Since January, the complainant had been requesting Pradhan to process his application. However, Pradhan was demanding bribe of Rs 10,000/- to initiate his application for the above purpose.

Left with no other option, complainant approached Vigilance authorities alleging harassment by the SRA. Vigilance sleuths nabbed Pradhan while taking the bribe money from the complainant. The entire bribe money has been recovered from the possession of accused Pradhan and seized.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations connected to Pradhan from Disproportionate Assets (DA) angle.

In this connection, a case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 and investigation is in progress.
