Odisha Vigilance Nabs Junior Engineer, Another For Taking Bribe From Contractor

Bhubaneswar: A Junior Engineer (JE) and another person were apprehended by Odisha Vigilance for alleged acceptance of Rs 25,000 bribe from a contractor in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district on Friday.

The JE, identified as Smruti Ranjan Nayak and posted in Naugaon Block of the district, and Babina Das, a private person, were caught during acceptance of bribe of Rs 25,000 a contractor for handing over of cheque for clearing his final pending bill, official sources said.

As per the direction of Nayak, the private person was allegedly accepting the bribe amount from the complainant in former’s presence. Vigilance officials nabbed both the accused and the entire bribe money has been recovered from their possession and seized.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations of Nayak from Disproportionate Aasets angle.

In this connection, a case has been registered and investigation is in progress.
