Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday apprehended an Accountant-cum-Data Entry Operator (ADEO) at Badaput Gram Panchayat under Boipariguda Blolck of Koraput for allegedly taking Rs 20,000 bribe from a contractor.
The accused, identified as Amarbar Mallick, allegedly demanded Rs 20,000/- from a contractor to process file and prepare all documents required for issue of work order in his favour for “Ghat Cutting work from Mirc
himala to Goilkhari” under MGNREG scheme.
Even after approval from the competent authority, ADEO Mallick was not issuing work order in favour of the contractor. Instead, he was demanding Rs 20,000/- bribe to issue work. Despite repeated requests by the contractor, Mallick was delaying the process for no reason and insisting him to pay the demanded bribe.
The contractor then approached the vigilance authorities about the matter. Upon receiving the information, a team of Vigilance nabbed Mallick while taking Rs 20,000/- from the contractor. The entire bribe money has been recovered from the ADEO and seized, a Vigilance press release said.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations of Mallick from Disproportionate Assets angle. A case has been registered against the ADEO and investigation is in progress.
