Bhubaneswar: Vigilance has apprehended a school principal and a school headmaster while taking bribe in Odisha’s Khurda and Kalahandi districts respectively.

In one case, assistant librarian of Keranga Panchayat Higher Secondary School, Khurdha had undergone brain surgery and was in need of money. He had applied to the school principal, Bidyutprabha Jena, for transmitting post elevation of pending arrear salary to the competent authority from January 2018 to February 2022 and facilitating release of the bill in his favour.

Despite several requests made by his wife, Jena was demanding bribe of Rs 50,000 to get the work done. Finding no other way, the assistant librarian’s wife lodged a complaint with the Vigilance.

The Vigilance set a trap and caught Jena red-handed while accepting the demanded bribe from the assistant librarian’s wife. The entire bribe money was recovered from Jena and seized. Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations of Jena from DA angle.

Bhubaneswar Vigilance has registered a case in this connection under PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 and further investigation is in progress.
