Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Friday apprehended a Junior Revenue Assistant (JRA) in Kendujhar district for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 6,000 processing a mutation-related file.
The accused, identified as B H Umashankar, is a JRA in the office of the Tehsildar of Patana. He was caught while demanding and taking Rs 6,000 from an applicant for processing a file in a mutation case and to facilitate issuance of ROR in his name and his other coparceners.
The applicant had applied online on 03.06.2026 for mutation of land as per the rules of the government in the R&DM Department. When the applicant enquired about the status of the case, the accused demanded bribe of Rs 6,000 to process the mutation file.
Being aggrieved by the demanded bribe, the applicant alerted the vigilance authorities. Upon receiving the information, a team of Vigilance nabbed the JRA while taking Rs 6,000 from the complainant in the garage of the Tehsil office. The entire tainted bribe money has been recovered from the possession of the accused and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations connected to the accused from Disproportionate Assets angle. A case has been registered and investigation is underway.
