Odisha Vigilance Traps Bhadrak Education Office Staffer Over Rs 10K Bribe

Bhadrak: The Odisha Vigilance on Thursday apprehended Srikanta Kumar Dash, a junior assistant in District Education Officer’s (DEO) office in Bhadrak, while allegedly accepting Rs 10,000 bribe.

According to a vigilance release, Dash was caught red-handed while receiving the bribe from a

representative of a private school in the district. The money was intended to expedite the processing of a file for the issuance of a Certificate of Recognition in favour of the school.

Officials said the school functionary approached Dash for routine file processing but was repeatedly asked to pay Rs 10,000 as a bribe. After several unsuccessful requests to get the work done without payment, the complainant approached the Vigilance authorities.

Acting on the complaint, a Vigilance team laid a trap and nabbed Dash while he was accepting the bribe amount. The entire sum of Rs 10,000 was recovered from his possession and seized as evidence.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches are being conducted at two locations linked to the accused to ascertain his disproportionate assets.

A case has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and further investigation is underway.
