Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths recovered cash amounting to Rs 7,29,200 and over 300 grams of gold ornaments during searches conducted at the premises of Akash Bisoi, District Labour Officer (DLO) of Kendujhar, who was nabbed for allegedly taking bribe.
Bisoi, an OLS-I officer, was caught by a Vigilance team on Sunday evening while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from an electrical contractor. The contractor had approached the Vigilance authorities after Bisoi allegedly demanded the amount for granting a labour licence in favour of his agency. He was caught taking the bribe money on Monday.
Following the successful trap, simultaneous searches were carried out at two locations linked to Bisoi from the disproportionate assets (DA) angle. The entire cash of Rs 7.29 lakh was unearthed from his government residential quarter in Kendujhar and seized, along with the gold jewellery.
Vigilance said Bisoi had entered government service as Junior Revenue Assistant in the Collectorate, Ganjam in July 2014 with an initial salary of Rs 20,000/- per month.
Then he switched over to another service under Labour and ESI Department as Assistant Labour Officer on 1.8.2016 in the cadre of Odisha Labour Service. He was posted at Karanjia, Mayurbhanj. He continued there and on 29.02.2024 was promoted to the rank of District Labour Officer and posted as DLO, Brahmapur, Ganjam. On 12.02.2025, Bisoi was transferred and posted as DLO, Kendujhar. He has been continuing as such till date at Kendujhar.
Further investigation is underway, and a detailed report is awaited.
