Bhubaneswar: Twin City Commissionerate Police have arrested web channel owner Sudhanshu Sekhar Rout from Barbil in Odisha’s Keonjhar district for his alleged derogatory remarks on social media.
A leading media group had lodged a complaint against him at Saheed Nagar police station for allegedly posting fake news about its channel and targeting people working with the organisation. He was nabbed by a special team last night while he hiding in a hotel there, sources said.
Rout has been booked under Sections 294 (utters any obscene song, ballad or words, in or near any public place), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), 509 (Whoever, intending to insult the modesty of any woman) of the IPC and Section 67 (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of the IT Act.
He had earlier spent around six months in Jharpada Special Jail here following his arrest for allegedly publishing obscene photos of sprinter Dutee Chand, besides attempting extortion. A case was then registered against him under Sections 292 (obscene and indecent publication), 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 385 (Putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 509 (Whoever, intending to insult the modesty of any woman).
