Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s talented teenager Jyoshna Sabar has done her state and country proud by excelling at the 2024 Asian Youth (Boys & Girls) Weightlifting Championships in Doha, Qatar.
The 16-year-old Jyoshna created a youth Asian record for total lift on way to winning the gold medal in 40 kg youth girls category on the opening day of the meet. Jyoshna lifted 135 kg, which included 60 kg in snatch and 75 kg in clean and jerk.
Payal won the second gold for India on Friday, topping the 45 kg youth girls event with a total lift of 155 kg – 70 kg snatch and 85 kg clean and jerk. Preetismita, another 16-year-old lifter from Odisha, finished fifth in 45 kg youth girls competition. She managed 145 kg (snatch 60 kg, clean & jerk 85 kg).
