Bhubaneswar: Adding a new feather to its cap, Odisha has bagged the prestigious Global Planet Award 2023 in the United States for implementing satellite image based validation of paddy crop system.
The coveted award was presented to the state’s Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Department at the Planet Explore 2023-Transparency to Action Conference in Washington DC.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated the department for winning the award and said the state is proud to ensure technology-led governance in paddy procurement for greater farmer welfare.
Using real time satellite image, the validity of paddy crops at farms is checked, ensuring transparent disbursal of Minimum Support Price (MSP), the CM’s office said in a tweet.
The technology-led transparency as part of 5T gpvernance has also substantially improved farmers’ participation in MSP scheme.
The Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Department has implemented the automation system equipped with satellite assisted paddy crop validation with help of Odisha Space Applications Centre (ORSAC).
“This innovative intervention of State Govt has tremendous potential to bring relief to genuine farmers and ensure proper targeting of MSP of paddy,” the Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Department tweeted.
