Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Monday felicitated sub-inspector Urmila Mallick and senior lawyer Chittaranjan Dash for their sincere work in a rape case which lead to the swift trial and conviction of the accused.
In May 2016, a minor girl raped by her father at Nayapalli here and on the basis of a complaint lodged by the her mother, Mahila police had arrested the accused, Susil Digal.
Mallick, who is currently posted with the STF, was the investigating officer in the case with Dash as the prosecution lawyer.
Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi attributed the early trial to proper investigation and timely submission of the chargesheet, which helped the prosecution to fight the case effectively.
District and Session Judge, Khurda, sentenced the convict to life imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 on him.
“The investigation in this case has been praiseworthy. We congratulate Additional Public Prosecutor, Chittaranjan Dash for successful prosecution, which led to the conviction of the accused,” said the Police Commissioner.
