Bhawanipatna: A woman allegedly died barely an hour after taking the first dose of Covishield vaccine at Kalampur Community Health Centre (CHC) in Odisha’s Kalahandi district.
The 24-year-old woman has been identified as Binodini Sagar of Mathiapada in Bijmapara panchayat.
According to reports, Binodini was accompanied by her husband Bhisma to the CHC where she got vaccinated at 11 am. After the mandatory 30 minutes rest in the hospital, the couple went to a local market on a two-wheeler for shopping. In the market, she complained of uneasiness and was rushed back to the hospital in an autorickshaw where doctors declared her brought dead.
She was fine before inoculation, said a shocked Bhisma. “I had insisted her for vaccination and now she is dead,” said an inconsolable Bhisma.
CDMO Dr Pratap Behera said “Adverse reaction is seen in one in one lakh inoculation cases. Binodini was the fourth person to be administered Covishield today. There were no complaints from other persons. After the incident, the vaccination drive was cancelled in the hospital for the entire day.”
As the family wanted the body without post-mortem, the hospital has taken an undertaking from her in-laws and parents. The body was handed over to the family members without an autopsy after receiving an undertaking, the CDMO added.
