Phulbani: A woman has been detained by police on charges of killing her 4-year-old daughter at Gutingia village under Sarangada police limits in Odisha’s Kandhamal district.

According to sources, Padmini Dandia (23) had been residing with her parents following a marital discord with her husband Rakesh of Gutingia village. She left home with her daughter, Surekha, on October 14 and returned two days later. Not finding Surekha, Padmini’s father questioned her, who then revealed that she strangulated her to death and then buried the body in a nearby forest.

The body was later exhumed by police on the basis of a complaint lodged by Padmini’s father. A case has been registered in this connection under Sections 302 and 201 of the IPC.

However, the reason behind her extreme act is yet to be ascertained.
