Bhubaneswar: A 34-year-old woman was allegedly raped and later found in a semi-conscious state in the Sarai Kale Khan area of Delhi, the police informed on Saturday.
According to reports, a passerby first spotted the woman early on Friday around 3:30 am in a deplorable condition and immediately alerted the authorities.
A police team arrived at the scene and shifted the woman to AIIMS Trauma Center for treatment. Initial investigations suggest that the sexual assault on the woman occurred elsewhere, and was later abandoned at Sarai Kale Khan.
The victim, who is said to be a graduate, originally hails from Odisha and was residing in Delhi for a year only, sources added.
She had been staying with a friend at Katwaria Sarai but later in August moved out following a dispute. Since then, she had reportedly been living on the streets. “Her family in Odisha has been notified, and she remains under medical observation,” a police officer told the media.
Police further stated that the woman was previously seen in southeast Delhi’s Jamroodpur where she had allegedly tried trespassing a house and also spent a night inside an ATM booth in Kishangarh.
Efforts are underway to identify the accused based on CCTV footage and other technical surveillance, the police added.
