Bhubaneswar: Five day after a self-immolation attempt over alleged debt burden, a woman of Pipili in Puri district succumbed to her burn injuries while undergoing treatment at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar on Monday.
The 37-year-old woman sustained around 70-80% burns after allegedly attempting to end her life by setting herself on fire at her rented home in Pipili town.
Police had then seized kerosene bottle, a handwritten suicide note, and a matchbox from the scene. “During preliminary investigation, we found that she made an attempt to die by suicide due to debt burden. In the suicide note, however, she has not blamed anyone,” Puri Additional SP Sachin Patel told the media.
The Pipili woman is the fifth victim of self-immolation in the state.
