Bhubaneswar: In further development of the Odisha government’s proposal to construct truck terminals beside National Highways and State Highways, the Works department has been told to prepare a detailed project report (DPR).
According to official sources, Usha Padhee, principal secretary, Commerce and Transport department has written to the Works department to prepare the DPR, plan design and budget estimate for the truck terminals to be set up in 10 districts.
As per the proposal, the truck terminals would be set up in 10 acre area beside the National Highways and State Highways. The construction work of the terminals have been assigned to the Works department, the sources said.
Each terminal will have rest house for drivers and helpers of the trucks, toilets and bathrooms, drinking water supply, food plaza, canteen and garage for repair of vehicles. Besides, there will also be facilities for parking terminals for the trucks, warehouses and cold storage, weighing bridge, loading and unloading area, ATMs and health clinic.
The Works department has been told to prepare the DPR mentioning the total financial estimate towards construction of the truck terminals including the boundary walls. It has been advised to study such terminals in other states while preparing the DPR.
It may be noted that the Central government has sanctioned a special aid of Rs 300 crore towards construction of the truck terminals in Odisha which aim at preventing road accidents due to parking of heavy vehicles beside the National Highways and the State Highways.
