Bhubaneswar/Bargarh: A young farmer reportedly drowned after falling into a drain near Moramarasingh village under Nuagarh Panchayat in Odisha’s Khurda district on Monday.
According to sources, the incident took place when Kambeswar Pattsani (29) had gone to see his farmland. He accidentally fell into the drain and was swept away.
He had got married six months ago. The villagers have demanded compensation for the bereaved family.
Meanwhile, a motorcyclist was rescued by locals after being swept away in rainwater at a temporary road connecting Ambapali with Bargarh. The temporary road was constructed near Jeera river and hundreds of people used it daily, sources said.
Notably, heavy rainfall in Odisha since Saturday night has triggered a flood-like situation with a rise in the water level of major rivers.
