Balangir: A high-voltage drama was witnessed at a village in Odisha’s Balangir district when a youth climbed atop a water tank in filmy style and to express his love.

As the youth created a scene similar to one in Hindi film ‘Sholay’, a large number of villagers gathered around the water tank at Kuthurla under Deogaon area of the district on Monday after the youth climbed the water tank, sources said.

While locals asked him to come down thinking that he was planning to take some extreme step, the youth surprised all by taking out his mobile phone and making a video call.

In a dramatic way, the young man proposed to a girl over video call. He also made an announcement about his desire to get married to the girl he loved. He even opened the water tank cover and got inside it, stating that life will be futile if the girl does not accept his proposal. It was not clear whether he intended to take any extreme step.

On being informed, fire services personnel rushed to the spot and safely rescued the youth after a two-hour drama. The youth, identified as Pintu Harpal, was taken to a hospital.

Police are stated to have initiated an investigation into the incident, the sources added.
