Bhubaneswar: It’s World Bicycle Day and an 18-year-old artist from Odisha’s Puri has created a unique model to promote this non-polluting mode of transport, which is essential if we wish to breathe easier and stay healthier.
Saswat Ranjan Sahoo has created an 1870 model penny-farthing using 3,653 matchsticks. “It took me almost a week to ready this,” he said.
This effort of his, he was hopeful, would make people realise the growing problem of air pollution and the need to save the environment.
“By cycling, one can remain physically fit and also contribute to the environment positively,” he added.
The penny-farthing bicycle was commonly used in the 1870s and ’80s.
