Jagatsinghpur: Another man from Odisha has allegedly fallen victim to cyber fraud and lost more than Rs 4 lakh recently.
According to sources, Rakesh Swain of Bilapokhariapada village under Kujang block of Jagatsinghpur had gone to work in a firm in Chhattisgarh around 5 months back. After working all these years, he had managed to save money from his salary to solemnise the marriage of his sister.
He received a message on his mobile phone directing him to click on a link given in the message to update his PAN card on August 15. Without doubting that it might be a message from cyber fraud, Rakesh went on clicking on the link step by step.
After completing the procedure through 3 steps, he received a message from his bank that Rs 4,48,999 had been withdrawn from his account. When he contacted, the bank officials also confirmed about withdrawal of the amount from his account through e-banking.
After realising that he had duped by cyber fraud, Rakesh filed a complaint at the local cyber police station in Chhattisgarh. In a video message, he said though nearly two months have passed since he filed the complaint, the cyber police have neither traced the fraud nor recovered his money.
Seeking help from Odisha Police, he has appealed to get his money back so that he can conduct the marriage of his sister.
It may be noted that a youth from Jatni in Khurda district was allegedly honey-trapped and duped of Rs 71,000 by a cyber fraudster a few days back. In another similar incident, a man from Bhubaneswar fell victim to cyber fraud while trying to book an e-bike online and was duped of Rs 48,500 recently.
