Balasore: Tension erupted at Fakir Mohan University after an alleged rape attempt on an assistant professor’s wife at their official residence on the varsity campus in Odisha’s Balasore.
The incident took place on Saturday afternoon when the woman was alone at home.
According to police complaint, the accused, Harihar Patra alias Shankara from Mardarajpur village near the campus, entered the house on the pretext of inspecting LPG cylinder in the kitchen at around 1.30 pm. Once inside, he allegedly locked the door and attempted to assault the woman. She managed to escape from his clutches and locked herself in another room, from where she called up her husband and screamed for help.
Hearing her screams, the security personnel stationed near the colony gate rushed to the house, managed to overpower the accused, and handed him over to Remuna police.
He is currently in police custody and is being interrogated, police said.
