Bhadrak: A youth was mercilessly thrashed after allegedly being tied to a pole following a dispute in a local cricket match at Laxmiprasad village under Basudevpur block of Odisha’s Bhadrak district.
The victim has been identified as Siddharth Rout, captain of the winning team.
According to sources, the incident took place on February 25. An argument ensued between the two teams at the village ground over a shot by a batter. When Siddharth was returning home after the match, some players of the opponent team caught hold of him and tied him to the electric pole on the outskirts of the village. They thrashed him mercilessly and he sustained grievous injuries on his head, chest and legs.
When his family tried to intervene, they too were thrashed by the attackers.
On being informed, police reached the spot, rescued the victim and admitted him to hospital. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
