Cuttack: In a rare feat, doctors at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack city have successfully conducted Odisha’s first vascularised lymph node transfer surgery.
The complicated vascularized lymph node transfer surgery was performed on a woman patient from Jajpur district by a team of doctors at the Plastic Surgery department of the hospital.
As per information, the 33-year-old patient from Jajpur was kept under observation for 15 days and her condition has shown considerable improvement. The woman had been suffering from Filariasis for the last several years. She was unable to do her daily work properly as her leg was unusually swollen.
Doctors said that such surgery started in the country around two years ago and it was first of its kind conducted in Odisha.
As part of the procedure, lymph nodes were taken from different parts of the body of the patient and implanted in the affected leg through microsurgery.
The condition of the patient has registered around 60 percent improvement. Earlier, symptomatic treatment was provided to affected patients and hence the recurrence was 100 percent, they said.
