Berhampur: Odisha’s leading tennis teens with identical names justified their top seedings in the AITA Super Series U-16 tournament here in the Silk City.
Aahaan Mishra emerged winner in boys’ singles, while Aahan claimed the girls’ singles crown at the Union Club clay courts on Thursday.
Aahaan had to overcome a tough challenge from Tamil Nadu’s Fazal Ali Meer before prevailing 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) in the boys’ final.
Aahan was more dominant in the girls’ final, as she outplayed West Bengal’s Riya Roy 6-1, 6-4.
The champions and beaten finalists earned 50 and 40 National ranking points, respectively.
Berhampur Superintendent of Police Dr Sravan Vivek handed over the trophies after the finals. . Ganjam District Tennis Association (GDTA) president Abdul Sattar, tournament secretary Uma Shankar Padhi, director Biswaranjan Patnaik and referee Jatin Batsya were present on the occasion.
Berhampur staged a National-level tennis tournament after a gap of seven years.
