Odisha’s Bargarh All Decked Up For Dhanu Yatra From Tomorrow

Bargarh: The Western Odisha town Bargarh is all geared up for the curtains to go up on Dhanu Yatra, the world’s largest open-air theatre, on Monday.

Dhanu Yatra is based on Krishna Leela and showcases the mythological story of Lord Krishna and his uncle and demon king Kansa.

During the festival, Bargarh transforms into Mathura. River Jeera symbolically represents river Yamuna and Ambapali, which is located on the other side of Jeera, turns into Gopapur.

King Kansa’s Raj Darbar measuring 42 feet tall, 120 ft long and 35 feet wide has been constructed at Hatapada in the town. Similarly, his Ranga Mahal has been decorated with several arch gates, colourful drapes and decorative lights.

King Kansa will perform on 14 stages that have been constructed at different locations in the town during the 11-day festival till January 25.

As part of promotional campaign, a Rangoli competition was organised in Bargarh on Sunday. Students of at least 66 educational institutions and artists drew colourful Rangoli.

Around 600 participants depicted different episodes from Krishna Leela through Rangolis on 700-metre stretch of the main road in the town. The artists of best Rangolis will be awarded at the end of Dhanu Yatra.
