Bhubaneswar: Biju Yuva Vahini (BYV) is not functioning in any part of the state at present, informed Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs Tushar Kanti Behera in the Assembly on Friday.
The minister said since no allocation has been made for the BYV in the budget for financial year 2020-21, it is not engaged in any kind of public service in the state.
During 2018-19, the state government had spent a whopping Rs 100.93 crore on different activities of the BYV, the minister had stated in the Assembly in November, 2019.
Regarded as one of the largest youth engagement programme in the country, BYV was launched as a sub-scheme by the Sports and Youth Services department with the Cabinet’s approval on March 14, 2018. It aimed at engaging the youths in various social action projects and community engagement activities through volunteerism.
